Hi loves! It’s Bronwyn from BiiBiiBeauty here today to talk to you about one of my all time favorite natural skincare ingredients to help manage acne prone skin, Witch Hazel.

When it comes to managing acne prone skin, the struggle can be all too real, especially when your skin is not only prone to acne but is also sensitive, making it that much harder to find a cure. Believe it or not, sometimes the cure can be as simple as finding a natural skin conditioning ingredient that will fight acne bacteria and tighten pores without all the harsh chemicals or sensitivity from essential oils such as tea tree oil and lavender oil.

What is Witch Hazel?

Witch Hazel is a natural astringent produced from the Native North American Witch Hazel Shrub or Hamamelis Virginiana. This liquid astringent derived from nature has been used for centuries by Natives as a form of skin healing to reduce inflammation, irritation and skin infections naturally. Witch Hazel’s powerful antimicrobial, calming, soothing, healing and cleansing properties make it an ideal staple to include in your skincare routine. If you aren’t suffering from insect bites or injuries, witch hazel can be used daily as an astringent toner to clean excess oil and dirt from the pores while toning and tightening them.

How to Use Witch Hazel

If you are new to this wonderful natural skincare product, then don’t worry, witch hazel on its own is extremely easy to incorporate into your skincare routine and is shockingly affordable! 100% pure witch hazel can be purchased in bulk from almost any chemist or drugstore. So how can you use it?

  • Use on a cotton pad and wipe over cleansed skin as a toner/astringent
  • Apply on a cotton ball and press it over bug bites, cuts and pimples to disinfect and sooth
  • Add to a mist bottle and use as a toning facial mist after cleansing to tighten pores and sooth skin
  • Apply to a washcloth and place it over sunburns to calm and sooth

There are countless ways you can incorporate this healing liquid to your routine to help speed up skin healing. Although if you are suffering from acne, this is one you might want to consider using daily as a toner/mist and compress to help remove excess oil, kill acne-causing bacteria and reduce redness and inflammation in acne.

Using Witch Hazel in Skincare

Aside from using pure witch hazel directly on the skin, this liquid can also be found in many skincare product, especially in products that are designed to detox, cleanse, calm and reduce acne. Look for witch hazel in creams, lotions, essences, toners and acne spot treatments if you are suffering with acne and want to include this powerful healing natural ingredient in your routine or to help gently cure acne prone skin without the use of hash chemicals. Witch Hazel can be found in some of my favolrite brand products such as I’M FROM and Skinmiso products! Below are some skin healing and acne fighting products that contain Witch Hazel.
