How to use Vit C

Well now that we know vitamin c is such an amazing ingredient to include in your routine, we now need to learn the different ways we can incorporate this amazing vitamin into our current skincare routines. Vitamin C can be found in many different forms of skincare, and choosing the right product is where it all starts.

  • Serums
Vitamin C in the form of serums is one of the most intensive and powerful ways you can include this vitamin in your routine to gain the maximum benefits. Serum forms generally contain a very high amount of vitamin c, making them the most effective at providing all the benefits of vitamin c. If you want to target multiple skin concerns to create flawless looking skin fast, then serums are the right choice for you. However, vit c in high concentrates and expire more quickly, as the higher the amount of vitamin c, the more unstable it is once opened. Generally, serums will need to be used regularly and stored in a cold dry place like the fridge to preserve it longer. But trust me, it’s worth it if you want to transform your skin!

  • Sheet Masks
Vit c can also often be found in the form of sheet masks for the skin. This form of vitamin c skincare provides intensive vit c treatment with one use masks. These masks are great if you want to give your skin a little mini vitamin c treatment that is gentler than a serum and give you that fast brightening, glowing skin you want with added hydration. These sheet masks are often recommended to be used after any form of exfoliation treatment such as microdermabrasion or micro needling. Doubles the benefits of those treatments. The bonus is if you use a vitamin c sheet mask alongside a serum, it will boost the effects of the serum, making it even more effective.

  • Creams
Lastly, vit c can also be found in some creams. However, the vitamin c content in creams in generally the lowest amount compared to sheet masks and serums. Creams that contain vitamin c are a great option if you don’t have many skin concerns, but you still want to give you skin a little boost to look it’s best, plus enjoy the powerful anti-aging benefits from the antioxidants in vit c. But if you use a cream alongside a vitamin c serum, you can drastically boost the effects of the serum, making it possible to see results faster than if you were to use a serum on it’s own.

A Fair Warning

So now that you know all the wonderful benefits of vitamin c, its time to take into consideration the side effects of using such an amazing ingredient. Let’s face it, it can’t really be that good to be true. Down to the nitty-gritty, vit c in all it’s glory, can also be damaging on the skin when use incorrectly. Vitamin C is a powerful exfoliate as it is a form of acid (ascorbic acid) which is a type of AHA (alpha hydroxy acid). AHA’s work by exfoliating away the top layer of the skin gently. The result is that the skin becomes more sensitive when used, making it more prone to damage from the sun and external aggressors. If you plan to use any form of vitamin c products, then make sure you always use an SPF during the daytime on your face. If you do not use an SPF, your skin will only gain more dark spots over time. Aside from the sun, vitamin c can be irritating to some sensitive skin types, so be sure to slowly introduce vit c into your routine so your skin has time to get used to the acid. On the topic of acids and sensitivity, vitamin C should not be used at the same time as any other acids. If you are currently using acids in your routine aside from vitamin c, the make sure you use them at different times as using multiple asides at one time can cause serious skin irritation from a chemical reaction and over exfoliation. For example, use vitamin c at night, then the next night, use your other acid.

There you have it! The best reasons why you should start using Vit c to transform your skin! Good luck!
