Hello loves! Today I want to talk about facial cleanser and the signs you might be using the wrong one for your skin type! Yes that is right, it certainly is possible to be using the wrong facial cleanser and it very well can be the cause of your current skin concerns and issues! So let’s take a look at the KEY SIGNS that your facial cleanser is not the right choice for you.
You Might Be Using The Wrong Facial Cleanser If:
Your Skin Feels Dry & Tight After Cleansing
This is a classic sign that you are using the wrong cleanser! Surprising as it may seem, the skin actually should not feel super dry and tight after cleansing. Don’t get me wrong, a bit of dryness is almost unavoidable once you reach a certain age. But it certainly should not feel tight right after cleansing!
Skin Is Starting to Feel Rough
Believe it or not, your rough skin texture can actually be caused by using the wrong cleanser. If your skin feels rough to the touch, it could be from using a crappy cleanser that is way to dehydrating for your skin.
You Have Redness & Sensitivity
When skin is consistently red and irritated, than your cleansing is overly stripping your skin of its natural oils, leaving skin irritated and unprotected! Most of the time, those with sensitive skin are using the wrong cleanser.
Breakouts & Acne
Oh yes, if you keep breaking out and can’t seem to figure out why, it can be from your facial cleanser! Either your current face wash is too drying and leaving your skin unprotected and susceptible to acne causing bacteria or your cleanser is too heavy and rich and is clogging the pores.
Skin Looks Dull & Tired
Of course, if you are feeling your skin is looking dull and tired on a regular basis, than your cleanser could be at fault. This can be due to if being to drying or not properly exfoliating away the dead skin cells.
Your Noticing Fine Lines & Premature Signs of Aging
Finally, if you are in your 20’s and are noticed a significant amount of fine lines and some skin sagging, these are key signs your cleanser is way to harsh on your skin and is overly stripping it!
How to Choose The Right Facial Cleanser
If you have any of the above 6 signs, then you are using the wrong facial cleanser for your skin. If you didn’t already notice, the main cause for the above signs is always linked to dehydration and overly drying of the skin from the cleansing that is too harsh. Usually these types of cleansers that cause these skin issues are harsh foam cleansers.
Now don’t get me wrong, foam cleansers can work great for some people, but those are usually individuals who naturally have an excessivly oily skin type. So if you identified with any of the above signs, then these are the types of cleansers you should stick to.
Minimal & Natural Ingredients
Look for cleansers with a minimal and short ingredients list and contain natural ingredients. If you have combination, sensitive or even acne prone skin, I recommend using a natural charcoal based facial cleanser. These will deep clean the pores and remove excess oil without stripping the skins natural barrier. I recommend my all time favorite cleanser, the Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Charcoal Soap.
Natural & Gentle Hydrating Ingredients
If your skin is tight, red and sensitive, I recommend using a gentle foaming cleanser that focuses on adding & maintaining the skins hydration and pH levels. For this I love the Klairs Rich Moist Foaming Cleanser. It’s a liquid cleansing that when pumped, becomes a soft and gentle foam that is loaded with natural plant extracts to help protect your skin while cleansing.
Functional, Gentle & Exfoliating Ingredients
If your skin has a rough texture and get’s breakouts, then you need a cleanser that exfoliates away dead skin cells without drying out the skin. For this I recommend the COSRX One Step Pimple Clear Pads. These pads contain gentle exfoliating ingredients that still clean the skin without stripping it of it natural barrier. These pads are loved globally and have become a holy grail for those with rough skin and breakouts.
Premature aging and all of the above? Add an oil cleanser!
What?! Yup that is right. If you have literally any of the 6 signs, then an oil cleanser is one you should add to your evening cleansing routine! Oil cleansers melt away makeup, pull makeup, dirt and excess oil from the pores and washes it away! Oil cleansers will deep clean your skin without disturbing your skin. But always remember to second cleans at night with a regular cleanser from the ones mentioned previously if you use an oil cleanse. For oil cleanser, I recommend the Chica Y Chico Killing Star Cleanser.
That my loves, are our recommendations and helpful advice to assist you in perfecting your skin cleansing routine. I hope this could be of help for your skin issues and concerns!
