Eyebrows Trends Throughout the Years

Makeup trends, like fashion trends, change and evolve with each passing decade. This is especially true of eyebrow makeup. Because eyebrows are essential for pulling together any makeup look, the size, shape and style of brows tends to change regularly depending on the hair and makeup trends of the time period.

Eyebrows in 1920’s, 1930’s & 1940’s

The shape, color, texture and thickness of eyebrows is stylistic in every era. For example, in the 1920s, is was fashionable for brows to be pencil-thin and very straight. Women preferred the serious, pensive look it gave their face. In the 1930s, brows remained super thin but sported an extreme arch and a long tail that curled downward. Actresses from this era usually look perpetually surprised or worried. Eyebrows in the 1940s finally began to look more natural. They were still arched high and drawn long, but they were medium-thick, which made them less severe.

Eyebrows in 1950’s, 1960’s, 1970’s & 1980’s

From the 1950s onward, eyebrows took on a thicker, more natural style. In the 50s, it was trendy to have thicker brows with a pointed arch and plenty of dark, matte eyeshadow filling them in. Throughout the 1960s, women chose to shave off their eyebrows completely and pencil them in with short, heavy, individual strokes to make them appear natural. This trend was abandoned completely in the 1970s, when ladies preferred to grow their brows and go for a more natural look. Brows in the 70s were similar in style to those in the 50s, except the arch was softer and the beginning of the brow was filled in more. Eyebrows in the 80s matched the shift to a more glam, hard rock period of time. Women wore heavy, bushy and sometimes wild eyebrows throughout most of this decade.

Eyebrows 1990’s & 2000’s

The 1990s saw eyebrows that were toned down considerably from the previous era. If anything, brows in the 90s were overplucked and sparse by comparison. From the early 2000s to now, women have started to prefer an eyebrow style that suits their unique bone structure and face shape. For some women, this is a fully arched and perfectly-groomed brow. Some like the thick, straight “boy brow.” Other women prefer thin, gently sloped brows, while a select few bold beauties like to wear the dark, heavy “power brow.”

Whatever your favorite brow style is, you shouldn’t have to spend a lot of time perfecting it with a pile of brushes, powders, gels and pomades. Achieving flawless and beautiful eyebrows should be quick and simple. For my perfect brow look, I always keep two products on hand: Berrisom Oops My Brow Tattoo Pack and Berrisom Oops Dual Tint Brow.

The Oops, My Brow Tattoo Pack is a long-lasting peel off eyebrow tint, and the Oops Dual Tint Brow is a single wand with two tips that provides tint, color and definition. These two products completely revolutionized my brow game! I went from spending lots of time and money getting my brows perfectly tinted and groomed to only taking a few minutes each morning to touch up my already beautiful eyebrows.

To prep your brows for these products, I recommend taking time once a week to shape your brows with a brow razor and some tweezers. The tint typically lasts 5 to 7 days, so by the time you need to touch up your tint, it’s already time to clean up your brow shape! I prefer to apply the Oops, My Brows Tattoo Pack before bed to let it set overnight. If you don’t trust yourself to sleep through the night on your back, you can always just take a couple of hours during the evening and apply the tint. It’s so easy to use! Just apply a thick, even layer along your brow shape, let it dry, and peel it off. The color is so natural, which means I don’t have to worry about my eyebrows being too dark or intense.

Between tint sessions, I use the Oops Dual Tint Brow for touching up any places my tint may have faded. The tint side has a thick, marker tip with a fine point to help make drawing easy, and the brow mascara side comes with a tiny, angled spoolie brush to help brush and hold unruly eyebrow hairs into place.

Whether you want your brows to be thick, thin, arched, straight or somewhere inbetween, Berrisom’s revolutionary brow products will help keep your eyebrows looking effortlessly beautiful and natural.
