Today we’re going to talk a little bit about how to get rid of those last few pounds of fat that just won’t seem to go. It can be very annoying to work hard, eat healthy and still see that the number on the scale just won’t go down anymore. If you’re having this problem, don’t worry! There are still a few tricks you can try and even a few beauty products that might be able to help.
1. Change Up Your Workout Regimen
Believe it or not, our bodies can grow accustomed to our workouts. If you’re always doing the same exercises like running on a treadmill or working your arms, after awhile your body stops responding to it as well. If you’re still a few pounds away from your goal weight, try doing a new or different workout. Activities like swimming, hot yoga or high-intensity interval training will activate all of your muscles and perk your body up, kicking your metabolism up higher and allowing you to drop those last few pounds.
Remember too that it’s important to do a mixture of cardio and weight training. Building up lean muscle will get rid of fat and make your clothes fit better.
2. Cut Your Sodium Intake
This one may seem obvious, but limiting how much salt you consume can be a big help when you’re trying to drop a little bit of extra weight. Salt can cause your body to retain water, which can result in feeling bloated and having your clothes fit unflatteringly.
If you’re serious about losing those last five pounds, then you have to be careful to avoid processed foods as well. Even if you don’t add any extra salt to your food, many processed foods already contain a lot of excess sodium. Stick to natural and organic foods to help limit your salt intake.
3. Drink More Water
It might seem silly to drink a lot of water if you’re trying to get rid of a bit of water weight, but it’s actually a great way to spark your metabolism. Drinking diet sodas or fruit juice can trick your body into holding onto extra weight because they are full of extra sugar and calories, but water is a calorie-free way to stay hydrated and keep your body burning calories.
If plain water is too unappealing, you can always infuse it with lemon, orange or mint to improve the taste.
4. Switch to a Low-Carb Diet
This tip is one that can be easily overlooked when you are dieting, but it is the most important. It is very common for low-fat or low-calorie foods to have a lot of extra sugars and carbs in them. Even though these foods are marketed as being good for you, they can actually keep you from reaching your goal weight.
Cutting out all sweeteners, sugars and carbs will force your body to burn excess fat. While it may be easy to understand why you should cut out sugars, you might still be wondering why it is important to stop eating carbohydrates as well. When the body needs fuel, it prefers to use sugars. They’re a fast and easy source of energy. That’s why you crave sugar when you’re tired and why you get a “sugar high” that leaves you in a tired slump a few hours later.
Since simple carbohydrates are turned into sugar by the body, even if you stop eating sugar, you won’t be able to lose the weight you are hoping to get rid of. In order to make your body burn off that last bit of fat it’s storing, you have to make sure that it doesn’t have any sugars to use up first. Switching to a low-carb diet for awhile will help your body use up all of the stored sugars and fat.
It might seem too hard to cut out carbs and sugars, but it can be done! You can even still eat rice and pasta, you just have to be creative about it. Cauliflower can be chopped up or grated and cooked like rice, and zucchini can be cut into noodles and cooked like pasta. These vegetables are great substitutes for all kinds of carbs because they take on the flavor of whatever spices and sauces you choose to cook them in.
4. Add a Few Beauty Products
To help your body out, it never hurts to add a few special products to your beauty regimen. There are many brands that make gels, patches and scrubs to help smooth and flatten trouble areas.
The first product I would recommend trying is the Jungle Botanics Natural Body Glow Nutshell Scrub. It’s the perfect way to smooth your skin and help minimize the appearance of cellulite. Cellulite happens when there is fat under the surface of your skin, usually on your thighs or buttocks, that makes the skin appear lumpy or dimpled. This scrub is made with smooth, rounded walnut shells and a special blend of natural oils to gently remove dead, dull skin and smooth out the lumps on your skin. Using an exfoliating scrub like this one is also great for stimulating the circulation to that area, making your skin appear firmer and healthier. Healthy, elastic skin will give the illusion of being slimmer, even if you still feel like you need to lose a few pounds.
Losing those last, pesky five pounds might seem like the hardest part of your weight loss journey, but don’t give up! Just follow the tips for a low-carb diet, a new workout and a few extra beauty products and you’ll be there in no time.
