Let’s face it, with summer quickly approaching to use in the northern hemisphere, we certainly want our skin to be in its best condition for the hot minimal makeup days to come. Yet, not only does that fact that we want to wear less base makeup have a roll on how our skin looks, but so does that drastic changes in the weather going from cold and dry, to hot and humid. These weather changes can easily make our skin prone to breaking out and become significantly more oily. This is why it is so important for us to change our skincare routine with every change of season to best suit what our skin truly needs in care to stay healthy and maintain the wonderful look of clear skin.
So with spring here and summer on its way, it’s time to ditch the heavy moisturizing creams and switch to some lightweight hydrating and oily controlling skincare to get clear skin just in time for summer.
THE CLEAR SKIN ROUTINE
CLEANSING: Clear skin starts with how you cleanse your face, especially at night! A deep and gentle cleanse is the right way to get you on the fast track to clear skin which is why we always recommend a 2 step cleansing routine at night. Start with an oil cleanser to dissolve makeup and SPF while pulling all the dirt from the day out of your pores. Rinse with lukewarm water and a washcloth, then foam cleans with a charcoal based natural facial soap. This will pull any excess oil out from deep within the pores without stripping the skin of its natural protective barrier.
TONING: One of the most important steps to skincare which is often skipped is using a toner after cleansing. Toning is very important as it closes the pores after you cleanse, making sure the pores do not appear bigger and prevents new dirt from getting inside which can result in acne pimples. This step when using a correct product can also balance the skins pH and hydration levels, making it healthier than ever before and boosting the effects of the skincare you use afterwards.
Treatment: If you have any skin concerns such as dark spots, rough skin texture or active acne, then this is the part of your clear skin routine where you want to use treatment products in serum/liquid form. If you have dark spots, start using a vitamin C serum at night to fade dark spots and promote skin healing and anti-ageing. If you have a rough skin texture due to surface clogged pores or dry skin build up, then try using an AHA product as these exfoliate the surface of the skin to smooth out the texture and also fade dark spots. If you have clogged pores and acne, then try using a BHA treatment, this type of product works from within to create clear skin by unclogging the pores and refining pores and excessive oil production.
Moisturize: Once your treatment is done, it’s time to top it off with a moisturizing lotion or gel of your choice. Since summer is around the corner, to achieve clear skin, you don’t want to be piling on too many heavy creams as your skin most likely doesn’t need it. Stick to using a multifunctional lotion that will provide lightweight anti-ageing benefits without being heavy on the skin. If you have more oily skin, then stick to using a Gel moisturizer with anti-aging benefits that add hydration, a little moisture and nourishment without adding heavy oils and clogging the pores.
Day-Time SPF: Aside from Nighttime skincare, always make sure you use an SPF during the day no matter what season it is. The suns UV rays lead to 90%+ of skin ageing including wrinkles, dark spots and more. Use a facial SPF of 40 daily, especially when using treatment skincare for clear skin such as Vitamin C and AHA. To maintain clear skin year round, always use an SPF designed for the face to limit the chances of irritation and clogged pores.
